Sustainable Summer Challenges

Since 2022, the “Sustainable Summer Challenges”, organised by the Green Team at CIMA Beratung + Management GmbH, have invited employees to take on simple sustainability challenges and share their experiences. Examples include cycling and using public transport more often. The challenges make sustainable behaviour part of everyday life, encourage exchange and recognise both individual and team engagement through sustainable rewards.

What gave you the courage to start?

We wanted to show that sustainable action does not have to be complicated. Good intentions often fail due to a lack of motivation, time or practical ways to integrate them into everyday life. The idea behind the Sustainable Summer Challenges was therefore to make sustainability fun, collaborative and as easy to engage with as possible.

The Biggest Challenge

The biggest challenge was developing a format that appeals to as many employees as possible while remaining motivating in the long term. Sustainability should not be perceived as an additional effort. Therefore, the challenges needed to be easy to implement, enjoyable and accessible regardless of individual circumstances, while also encouraging long-term changes in habits.

The Biggest Learning

We learned that people are not motivated by bans or obligations, but by positive experiences and visible successes. At the same time, we learned that even small incentives and a playful approach can have an impact on engagement.
