Schindler Nature Garden

The Nature Garden at the Schindler Campus in Berlin provides a diverse habitat for wild bees, insects, and small animals. Working together, school students and employees created wildflower beds, a sandarium, a deadwood hedge, and an insect hotel. With additional features such as early-blooming flowers and a bird feeder equipped with a camera, the garden serves as a place for learning, connecting, and exploring biodiversity.

The Outcome

The Schindler Nature Garden project established a successful partnership with local schools and created an extracurricular learning space. It encourages employees to volunteer and has sparked students’ interest in the company. The publicly accessible garden is now a shared meeting place for employees and school classes. Cooperation with residents of the neighbouring accommodation is also being considered.

The Impact

The project has brought people together beyond the company, with young and old working side by side in a space that brings joy and invites people to spend time together. Creating the nature garden as a joint effort strengthened the sense of community, raised the profile of volunteering, and generated positive attention both within the company and beyond.

The Biggest Challenge

The biggest challenge has been getting employees involved in the project. Communication with the schools also required a great deal of patience. Within the company, coordination with management was often time-consuming, particularly when it came to commitments, approvals, and the allocation of funds.

The Biggest Learning

Without one or two committed employees driving the project forward, nothing works.
